Do you love solving puzzles? Are you a fan of puzzle games? Puzzles are a fun way to not only entertain yourself but also to enhance your problem-solving skills and compete against your friends in a battle of brains!
Whether you’re constantly finding yourself in possession of free time to kill, or you love challenging your friends to brain teasers and bragging about your brain power, what you need are good puzzle games. Puzzle games are often small and require very few resources. Good video games are often graphic-intensive, and they can be quite demanding and drain your device battery fairly quickly. Puzzle games mostly don’t suffer from these issues.
We have compiled a list of puzzle games you can challenge your friends with. See who among you is the best problem solver!
Here is a list of some of the best puzzle games you can play on your phone.
1. Brain it on!
Brain it on is a brilliant blend of problem solving and physics combined into a highly addictive puzzle game. It is one of the best games you can challenge your friends in. You can keep score by how many levels you have crossed.
The game has a brilliant physics engine that you can play around with. Make materials by drawing out shapes, and watch the physics come into play! Each level offers a new puzzle that can only be solved in a certain way. Perhaps to throw something into that top jar, you might need to build a lever first? The game provides hints as you go along, but only for a limited number of times. Another challenge is to use as few materials as possible to get maximum achievements. As you level up and become advanced, you get to deal with a variety of different elements; sometimes the walls might be made of rubber, causing extra bounce, or the gravity might be reversed altogether!
It is worth noting that this game is best played with a stylus pen since drawing precise shapes with fingers can get challenging at times.
2048 is a fairly old puzzle game but is still extremely popular and has many versions. You start out with a grid (typically 4×4, but some versions also have 6×6 and 8×8 grids), and your goal is to combine all of the tiles with the same number to create new numbers. The numbers come in multiples of two, and you can combine them to make even larger numbers. The goal is to reach the magic number 2048, but some versions of the game let you keep playing to get even larger numbers, such as 4096, 8192 and so on. The game ends when you can’t combine any more tiles.
There are various versions of the game, some with larger grids and some with larger numbers. But the basic concepts remain the same. Achieve an unbelievably high number and challenge your friends to best it. Note that some versions of the game allow for an “Undo” move, but this game is best played without this feature.
Dots is another very simplistic, yet very addictive puzzle game that is suitable for all ages. The game starts off with a blank screen with a few multi-colored dots. You have to find dots of the same color that are adjacent to each other and connect them together vertically or horizontally. The more matches you make, the higher your score. But, there’s a catch! You only have one minute to do this. You can challenge your friends to beat your best one-minute high score!
You can get time extensions with power-ups, but you will need to use the in-game currency to buy them. This game supports in-app purchases too for buying more dots and such, but the basic game without purchases will serve you just fine.
4. Swipe Brick breaker
A relatively lesser known, yet very addictive game that will keep you occupied for hours. This game is suitable for all ages. The best games are often those that are the simplest, and that is indeed the case here.
The concept is simple; At the start you have one ball and have to shoot it upwards to hit a brick. Each brick has a number written on it, indicating how many ball hits will it take for it to break. With each turn, new bricks come into play and the number written on the new bricks increases. Similarly, the number of balls you have per turn also increases to match the number on the new bricks. It’s an endless game theoretically. But practically, it can get pretty challenging. One of the most satisfying moments comes when you clear the screen of all bricks.
Achieve a high score in this game and challenge your friends. Watch as they spend hours trying to best your best score!
5. Cut the Rope
Cut the Rope is one of our favorite puzzle series from back in the day. The game involves a monster, and your job is to cut the ropes in such a way that the candy makes it to the monster. The monster eats it and you progress to the next level. But it isn’t as simple as it sounds; the candy isn’t easily accessible and you have to maneuver it with rope swings and slings.
Cut the Rope is an entire series and has many games under its umbrella. They all have the same concept, but with different levels, mechanics and scenes. That should keep you and your friends interested in the game for quite some time. The games are available for multiple platforms.
The next time you’re sitting with your group of friends, be sure to challenge them in these games and watch them pull their hair out trying to beat your scores!
