It has been long time coming but macOS 13 — or macOS Ventura — is finally here. Apple rolled out its big update for all Mac users and it brings in tow a host of new features. There are new features in Safari, iMessage, all-new apps for Weather, Clock and much more. Here are all the important features that Mac users can start using from today.
Mail app gets new features
With macOS Ventura, users can undo send, scheduled send in the Mail app. Two other new features are Remind Me and Follow Up which will help users keep track of mails better. Apple has also improved the search functionality in the Mail app.
Safari gets passkeys and more
Passkeys is Apple’s answer to the password problem. As per Apple, it has been designed to replace passwords and passkeys are a safer sign-in method. Also, there’s a new Shared Tab Groups feature that allows users to share a set of tabs with others and improves collaboration on Mac.
Edit and undo sent messages
With macOS Ventura, users can now edit a message, undo send, and mark as unread — just like on the iPhone. There’s SharePlay in Messages that allows you to share movies, listen to music with friends on the Message app. There’s also improved collaboration as users can now work on a file in the Message app and also get activity updates.
iCloud Shared Photo Library
Users can now share photos and videos with up to five family members in a separate library that is right into the Photos app
Stage Manager: The ‘big’ Mac feature
Apple says that Stage Manager helps in automatically organising apps and windows. Users can put their active app in the centre and other open apps on the left side of your screen. Further, users can group apps together to create a set of apps.
Using iPhone as webcam
Continuity Camera allows you to use iPhone as a Mac webcam when you bring iPhone close to Mac and place it in a stand (iPhone XR and later). The stand is sold officially and Belkin makes one specially for the MacBook. There’s a Desk View which users the ultra-wide camera of the iPhone to show what’s on your desk during a video call.
Other important features
There’s a new Clock app for Mac which features world clocks, timers, and alarms. Apple has also brought the Weather app to Mac and it is optimised for the larger display, and features immersive animations, hourly forecasts, and detailed weather maps. System Settings — or the Settings app — gets an all-new and much needed redesign. It looks very much like how Settings app is on the iPhone.
How to download macOS Ventura
There are two ways to download macOS Ventura. You can either download it directly from the App Store on Mac or follow these simple steps. Go to System Preferences on your Mac and head to the Software Update menu to download macOS Ventura.
