However, the Demand Flexibility Service will be running during what National Grid describes the peak hours to be 4pm to 7pm.

The scheme will take shape over 12 test days from November to March to see how customers respond.

Customers taking part will be notified 24 hours before a “test” day, in which they’ll be asked to reduce their energy usage during a one-hour period determined by National Grid, between the peak hours.

Measures can include choosing to run power-hungry appliances, such as washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, electric showers and immersion heaters, before or after the ‘event’ or the following day.
