Chelsea have now had those scan results back and it’s been confirmed that James will now be out of action for up to a month. Cesar Azpilicueta replaced James in the second half, but Potter has shown in recent months that he’s happy to chop and change in the right wing-back position.
Raheem Sterling, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic have all been utilised as makeshift full-backs in the 3-5-2 system. For James, it likely means he will miss Chelsea’s next six games in all competitions.
They include tough Premier League matches against both Manchester City and Liverpool, along with an FA Cup clash with Pep Guardiola’s side.
