The Spider-Verse series is known for creating waves in the animation genre. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a film that received an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Therefore, Sony Pictures Entertainment have to bring their A-game in order to maintain the level they have created. According to recent reports, it seems they are putting in all the efforts to provide the best possible animation yet.

Through a recent interview by The Direct, we received some insights into Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse visuals from senior character animator Ere Santos. Firstly, he spoke about how the fans are not ready for what’s about to come. They can expect a great bunch of similar details along with a whole lot of different ones. He added that “the expectation, at least for the visuals, cannot be high enough.”

Then he went on to talk about the animation community. He stated that after the movie is released, the whole community is going to wonder how they managed to pull it off. He hopes the sequel receives the same effect as the first one, and is intrigued about how people might receive the sequel. Moreover, he stated that the movie has a very touching story and has visuals that fans will “spend the next 10 years framing through.”

Furthermore, he spoke about how exciting it was to work on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and how “every world essentially has its own kind of animation style”. He said that they also had to change things a bit, sometimes because of the frame rate and other times due to a “push cartoony thing”. While creating this world, they had to maintain a specific attitude and look at how they were gonna approach it.

Additionally, the excitement came from the interesting proposition given to the team, which was “let’s try whatever the heck you want to try, and let’s see what happens.” He felt that the process of trial and error brought a huge sense of excitement to the production and also made it feel very unique.

Lastly, he spoke about how happy he was developing new characters. There is one specific character that he has animated, which he is most excited about. He cannot wait to see how the fans react and re-enact this character through cosplay and all kinds of other stuff. He couldn’t speak about his favourite sequence, as he mostly worked on stuff that could spoil the movie.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be out in theatres on June 2, 2023, and after learning more about the visuals, fans definitely cannot wait to see it in action. Hopefully, we learn some more details about the movie along the way.
