Matt Short’s maiden century has helped Adelaide to the highest successful run chase in BBL history.

Short finished on 100 from 59 balls, reaching the milestone with a boundary from the third ball of the 20th over. That boundary was also the winning runs, as the Strikers overhauled Hobart’s total of 4-229.

Chris Lynn blasted 64 from 29 balls, including four sixes, as Hobart crumbled in the face of an extraordinary onslaught.

Pakistan import Faheem Ashraf finished with the embarrassing figures of 0-61 from 3.3 overs, while young medium pacer Mitchell Owen went for 33 runs off just two overs.

The 17th over of the Adelaide innings proved the turning point. With 58 required from four overs, Faheem conceded 22 runs. Hobart thought they had Adam Hose dismissed from the fourth ball of that over, only for the umpires to call no-ball. The subsequent free-hit went for six, one of three times the rope was cleared in that over.

In further bad news for Hobart, spinner Paddy Dooley suffered what appeared to be serious shoulder injury when he dived to save a boundary in the 19th overs.

Earlier, Ben McDermott (57), Caleb Jewell (54) and Zak Crawley (54 not out) all made half-centuries as Hobart recorded the highest score in its history.

But it wasn’t enough as Adelaide recorded its fourth win from eight matches to move to fourth on the ladder.

Hobart is sixth with three wins from seven games.
