Nicolas Cage Won’t Return in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse may be mining the width and breadth of the Marvel multiverse for its superhero cameos, but one familiar face apparently won’t be returning in this animated sequel. Nicolas Cage revealed he won’t be back to voice Spider-Man Noir.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Cage revealed he hasn’t been approached by Sony to return, despite a clear willingness to reprise the role of this gun-toting, monochromatic vigilante.

“You’d have to ask Sony. I don’t know what’s going on with that,” Cage said. “No one’s spoken to me about that. Ask them. I don’t know. I really don’t. I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that’s a great character. Spider-Man’s the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with [James] Cagney and [Humphrey] Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it’s a great character.”

It’s unclear whether this means Spider-Man Noir won’t appear in the sequel or that the role has been recast. There’s no trace of the character in the teaser trailer released in December. That said, with Sony releasing another Spider-Verse sequel in 2024, there’s still hope that Cage could eventually be brought back into the fold.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will feature several new characters in major roles. The new cast includes Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk and Jason Schwartzmann as the dimension-hopping villain The Spot.

Cage may not be returning to the Spider-Verse, but he is getting the chance to play Dracula in 2023. Cage will play the iconic vampire in Renfield, starring opposite Nicholas Hoult as the titular henchman.
