Google seeded the first beta of Android 13 QPR2 (Quarterly Platform Release 2) last month. Now, the company has released the second beta build of Android 13 QPR2 for eligible Pixel phones with bug fixes, a few new emojis, and system improvements.
The Quarterly Platform Release beta updates let Pixel users try out the upcoming features before they come out with the stable update. The stable build for Android 13 QPR2 is slated to release in March, after the third beta release in February.
Android 13 QPR2 beta 2 brings new emojis and system improvements
Android 13 QPR2 beta 2 comes with the new Unicode 15.0, adding a bunch of new emojis and a new Google Home icon in the device controls. Meanwhile, the lava lamp effect on the media control has been removed.
The bug that caused the System UI crash has been addressed in the latest beta update. Additionally, the bug that caused the video camera to go into slow-motion mode after switching back to the normal video has also been fixed.
Since it is a beta build, the update has a fair share of issues. There are a few known issues with the latest Android 13 QPR2 beta build. The recent apps can freeze when the device orientation is switched when opened. Also, the “Settings” app may crash after entering and exiting the Picture-in-Picture mode after changing the orientation. Also, the “null pointer exception” may crash the system UI.
Google Pixel 4 and later are eligible to try out the Android 13 QPR2 beta. However, do note that installing the Quarterly Platform Release beta updates will wipe all the data. You will only be able to leave the beta program without losing data when the stable build arrives in March.
Users who have installed the beta can share the feedback through the Android Beta Feedback app on their Pixel phones.
