WoW: Dragonflight’s First Major New Feature Arrives February 1

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s first new content is arriving on January 24 with patch 10.0.5, but fans will have to wait an extra week to check out the update’s big new feature–the Trading Post.

As previously detailed, the Trading Post is a new, free battle pass-like feature for Blizzard’s longrunning MMORPG where players can complete various monthly challenges to acquire a new, Trading Post-specific currency called Trader’s Tender. That currency is then used to purchase a rotating collection of cosmetics, ranging from armor sets and weapon appearances to pets and even mounts. Some of the items that will be on offer on the Trading Post have previously only been available for real money via the game’s cash shop, effectively giving players a way to earn premium cosmetics for free.

Simply logging in once each month will earn players 500 Trader’s Tender, and completing challenges throughout the month will allow players to earn an additional 500. As an extra “thank you,” Blizzard will be awarding a bonus 500 Trader’s Tender to all players who have purchased the new Dragonflight expansion.

The Trading Post won’t go live until February 1, but the rest of the update, which brings balance changes, UI improvements, and the ability to (finally) transmog common and poor quality gear, will arrive on January 24. That’s also when players will be able to tackle a new world event, the Storm’s Fury, which appears in the Primalist Future area within Thaldraszus. Participating in the event will grant Essence of the Storm, which can be exchanged for new rewards like the Skyskin Hornstrider mount.

Patch 10.0.5 will be the first major Dragonflight update for 2023, and kicks off an ambitious content roadmap Blizzard has outlined for the remainder of the year. That roadmap includes two major content updates that will introduce new raids and zones, alongside more frequent minor updates that will add additional story content, events, and more.

In GameSpot’s WoW: Dragonflight review in progress, we said for the game’s latest expansion to truly succeed, “it will need a steady patch cadence that delivers balance changes and new content for players to sink their teeth into,” something that so far Blizzard seems set to deliver.
