India’s 3000m steeplechase specialist Parul Chaudhary, 27, convincingly won the Tata Mumbai half marathon on Sunday, clocking 01:15:07, to emerge the fastest among elite Indian women. Uttar Pradesh’s Nandini Gupta [01:24:12] came second, while Maharashtra’s Buldhana-based Poonam Sonune [01:24:59] clinched the bronze medal.

“I`m delighted with my performance as I broke my earlier best timing [01:15:18] which I had registered here in 2020,” Chaudhary, a Western Railway athlete, told mid-day.

Chaudhary, who is currently training at the national camp in Bangalore, is hoping her good form can help her finish on the podium at this year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

“I want to win a medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Games. I will also try to be in the top three in the 5000m event,” added Chaudhary, who found the Mumbai course challenging.

“It was a good experience running in Mumbai, but I feel the best running experience is in Delhi. The roads in Delhi are nice and flat, while in Mumbai there are some hilly sections which make it tough,” she concluded.
