The new-age fashion enigma was rightly cast in the film launching three debutants. Alia carried them off with ease, thanks to her unfaltering charm. Vivid colours, exotic beachwear, bling sequined dress, and traditional lehengas – all the glitz that a Karan Johar film demands were aptly put together. There were also a few winter wardrobe staples found in her song Ishq Wala Love – she sported a hot pink blazer and a sunny yellow overcoat that gave quite the dopamine rush with a backdrop blanketed with snow. Probably one of the films where Alia Bhatt truly glowed in her inherent beauty. She played a South Indian girl in the film called Ananya Swaminathan. From playing a girl-next-door chic who falls in love with a north Indian girl in college, to going back to her roots as she starts working – the transition of her character was very well depicted through her outfits. Alia sported a lot of Indo-western looks in the film. Lots of long skirts and kurtis were seen with traditional Indian embroidery, the oxidised earrings being the perfect accessories for them. A rich colour palette featuring browns, reds, blacks, and peacock blues was the highlight. A layering jacket was added to give it a bohemian look. All the kurtis she wore were of bright colours from pinks, purples, blues, reds, and green. The traditional Kanjeevaram sarees were a vision to behold with detailing of pale shades contrasting brighter hues, and traces of colour blocking was also seen. Clearly a celebration of Indian wear we say.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania
The sequel to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and what an upgrade! The basics remained pretty much the same in this instalment as well, the heavily studded lehengas, bright kurtis, ticking off all the traditional looks boxes. In Badrinath Ki Dulhania, the contemporary vibe of her onscreen character Vaidehi Trivedi was loved by the audience. The highlights of her wardrobe choices included a lot of vibrant kurtis, gota patti dupattas, silhouettes such as one-shouldered blouses, fabrics such as chikankari and intricate patchwork were also key elements to the small-town girl she was playing. Add ons such as bandhani scarves were quite a refreshing styling trick. As for the accessories, her oxidised earrings and that classic nose pin were the cherry on top.
Dear Zindagi
Boho-chic vibe indeed took a front seat for Alia’s character Kaira in Dear Zindagi. As brilliant as she was in the portrayal, the young crowd connected with her easy style statements that were casual and perfect for everyday wear. We are talking about flowy dresses, plaid, and printed shirts paired with denim and t-shirts. Be it her tank tops or midi and maxi dresses – there was a lot of the layering trend seen in her styling for the film. As for accessories – the crossbody bags and sling bags were just the kind to suit the Gen-Z style preferences.
Kalank
Alia Bhatt has never looked as beautiful and elegant as she looked at Roop Chaudhry in Kalank. A thorough traditional lookbook was replete with intricate looks that went on to become major style statements inspiring the general masses. Set in the pre-British era – Alia was seen sporting a lot of shararas and ghararas in colours like bottle green, rich chikankari embroidery, and golden zari work. Colour palettes ranged from maroons to cream and pink shades. Beautiful floral threadwork to detailed golden stitches was seen on the bodice as well as the blouse borders. Her iconic white lehenga for the song Ghar More Pardesiyan was one of the most loved looks and to date is etched in our memories.
Gangubai Kathiawadi
The fact that fashion plays an essential role in the character representation of films was seen in abundance in Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. Playing the titular role, she was brilliant both in her performance and the style and grace that was curated for her character. While in the initial phase she was seen sporting colourful outfits, the storyline slowly veered to a point where the serene white hue became a major element in expressing her character’s state of mind. The range of white sarees seen, started a fashion revolution of sorts – while some were simple, some had a dark-hued border. Some saw intricate work done on the pallu while the ending sequence saw her drape a white saree with a red border. Heavy necklaces and jhumkas, nose pins, and clamouring bangles were all integral parts of her characterization as the matriarch of a brothel that was noticed by the fashion critics, and she carried them off with utmost panache.
