British Airways has cancelled the flights due to strike action at Heathrow Terminal 5. Affected passengers should have been contacted directly by the airline.

Around 1,400 members of staff working at Heathrow Terminal 5 are taking part in the strike action which is scheduled to continue for 10 days.

British Airways posted on its website: “We’re sorry to let you know that we will be affected by the proposed industrial action being taken by Heathrow Airport staff between March 31 and April 9.

“Due to the industrial action being taken by Heathrow Airport staff, the number of security lanes in operation will be reduced.

“Our First Wing will be closed and Fast Track will be reduced. We expect that it will take longer than usual to pass through security and we will have additional BA colleagues available to support customers.”

Jac Morris, confused.com travel insurance expert, said: “If you’re set to travel through Heathrow Airport over the next 10 days, be sure to allow plenty of time to make it through longer queues.

“And if you find your flight is delayed, you may be eligible to claim compensation from the airline itself. This will depend on how long your flight is delayed for, the country you’re flying to, and the length of your flight. If your flight is cancelled, then you have a legal right to either claim a full refund or ask for a replacement flight.

“The Easter break is just the start of a summer of travel, and thousands will be flying throughout the next few months.

“If you’re planning a holiday abroad it’s always sensible to consider insurance in case you meet an unexpected event.”
