‘It Was Just the Worst Experience’- Ben Affleck Reflects on His Justice League Role

Hollywood star Ben Affleck will don the cape of the Dark Knight in the upcoming DC movie, The Flash, which will release later this year.

The actor has played a major part as the iconic comic book character in three movies so far, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and its four-hour director’s cut in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Over the past few weeks, the popular actor has stated his reasons to step away from the role, including his decision to exit as the director of his solo Batman movie. Matt Reeves later jumped on board to helm the film, and it has now become “The Batman”, an entirely fresh take on the character in a separate universe from the DCEU featuring British actor Robert Pattinson as the titular character.

During a recent interview with the LA Times, Affleck further talked about the details of his choice to not be at the helm of his first solo Batman movie.

“You’re supposed to always want these things, and I probably would have loved doing it at 32 or something. But it was the point where I started to realize it’s not worth it. It’s just a wonderful benefit of reorienting and recalibrating your priorities that once it started being more about the experience, I felt more at ease.”

Furthermore, he also shed some light on how personal tragedies involving him and his loved ones including his Justice League director in Zack Snyder, whose daughter passed away during the movie’s production, also played a huge part in the horrible experience he had while playing Batman.

“It just was the worst experience. It was awful. It was everything that I didn’t like about this. That became the moment where I said, I’m not doing this anymore.” He continued, “It’s not even about, like, Justice League was so bad. Because it could have been anything.”

It’s disheartening to hear Affleck talk about his state during the production of the movies where he wore the cape, mostly because of how well he played as both the Dark Knight and Bruce Wayne.

Even with the mixed response for movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Affleck’s character was one of the highlights.

It will be a tough pill to swallow for fans when he will don the cape one last time in The Flash, and most likely pass the baton to a returning Michael Keaton.
