Priyanka Chopra talks about what she felt when she wore the mangalsutra for the first time
Priyanka Chopra recently posted a brand endorsement on her Instagram profile. In the video, she shared what feelings she went through when she wore mangalsutra for the first time after she married Nick Jonas.
The brand endorsement shared by Priyanka was for a jewellery company which made a modern mangalsutra. The actor shared her feelings about wearing mangalsutra and said, “I remember when I wore mine for the first time… because we have grown with the idea of what it means. It was just a very special moment for me. At the same time, as a modern woman, I also understand the repercussions of what it means. Do I like the idea of wearing mangalsutra or is it too patriarchal? But at the same time, I am that generation that’s sort of in the middle. Maintain tradition but know who you are and what you stand for. And we’ll see the next generation of girls might do differently.”
Priyanka went on to describe the importance of black beads in a mangalsutra and said, “The black is basically to ward off evil, to protect you.”

Priyanka Chopra and American actor-singer Nick Jonas tied the knot in December 2018 after dating for a few months. The couple lives in Los Angeles but Priyanka follows all the Indian traditions and celebrates festivals there as well, glimpses of which are often shared by her on social media.
