Ravi Mittal, former secretary department of sports is appointed as the chairman of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), according to a note privately circulated by the ministry of corporate affairs.

According to the note issued yesterday (February 2), Ravi Mittal would be chairman of IBBI for a term of five years or till he is 65 years of age- whichever is early.

The chairman’s post at the IBBI fell vacant after M S Sahoo retired on September 30 last year after completing his five-year tenure. Navrang Saini, a whole-time member of IBBI was given an additional charge to head IBBI during the interim period.

Ravi Mittal, a 1986 batch IAS officer from Bihar cadre, had earlier served as secretary in the Information and Broadcasting ministry. Last June, Mittal was given additional charge as secretary in the ministry of skills development and entrepreneurship.

IBBI is a regulatory institution set up by the ministry of corporate affairs for enforcing the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). IBBI regulates the corporate insolvency and resolution processes. It also regulates the insolvency professionals and information utilities.
