The celebrity ranks of Fortnite’s battle royale continue to grow, with the game adding two more musical stars to their roster in the form of Grammy winners Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. The duo, who perform together under the moniker Silk Sonic, will be available in the Fortnite shop starting on February 10th. However, players will have a chance to get them early via an in-game tournament on February 7th.
While the game is known for mashing up pop culture worlds from Marvel, Star Wars, and elsewhere, real-world celebrities are also some of the most popular characters for Fortnite gamers. That includes other musicians such as Marshmello and Ariana Grande, athletes like LeBron James and Neymar, and streamers like Ninja and Loserfruit.
The Silk Sonic Pack
This also isn’t the first time the members of Silk Sonic have been featured in the game; Mars has his own Fortnite emote, while .Paak was part of a virtual concert series in 2020. Players can acquire several emotes and dances and cosmetic skins from the Silk Sonic pack. Both the Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak Outfits come with alternative styles in addition to their default one, including reactive styles for each.
The Silk Sonic Cup: Time, date, how to compete, and more
Epic has also announced a tournament on Feb. 7th for players to participate in, earn points and win items from the Silk Sonic pack. Players willing to compete in the Duos Silk Sonic Cup have a chance to unlock the Bruno Mars Outfit, Anderson .Paak Outfit, Sound Scepter Pickaxe/Back Bling, and Sonic Snare Back Bling before they drop in the Shop.
Earning 8 points will give players the Silk Sonic Spray, while a smaller group of the highest points-earners will win the outfit pack. You earn points by playing Duos matches in the tournament’s playlist. The Silk Sonic Cup runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in each matchmaking region. Icon Radio feat. Bootsy Collins
Outside of the new combatants and their associated gear, Fortnite is also getting a new in-game radio station called Icon Radio, which will naturally feature tunes from the musical duo. Icon Radio’s host will be none other than the bass-slapping Funk legend and Silk Sonic collaborator, Bootsy Collins. Icon radio will also feature several hits from Bootsy Collins himself!
This is shaping up to be a very interesting feature, I fondly remember listening to hits on the radio in Far Cry as I drive around, shooting things.
