Bhagyashree: Lataji hailed from Sangli and was close to my parents

Bhagyashree, who hails from the royal family of Sangli in Maharashtra, has a special connection with Lata Mangeshkar, who spent her growing up years in the city. Both families were extremely close. The legendary singer later sang `Dil Deewana` for Bhagyashree`s debut film `Maine Pyaar Kiya` with Salman Khan.

The actor says, “We celebrated Basant Panchami yesterday, it’s the day we pray to Goddess Saraswati, who is known for gifting knowledge, arts and culture. Saraswati ki awaaz unn mein thi (Lataji was blessed with the voice of the Goddess herself). When we speak about a melodious voice, the first person we think of is Lataji.
It`s not just the film industry, but every person out there who will feel that loss. Knowing that she was in a critical condition, I’m relieved that she didn’t have to suffer for a long time.

My favourite song of hers is of course ‘Dil Deewana’ (Maine Pyaar Kiya). It’s a blessing for any newcomer to have Lataji lend her voice to them. The song that touched all of India is ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’, which has become sacred in its own way.

She hailed from Sangli, so my bond with her was not limited to the fact that she sang for my movie; we go back in time as she was also close to my parents.”
