Braemar, including the Angus, Perth, North Perthshire, West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine regions had 1,000 eligible individuals. Similarly, Loch Glascarnoch, including Caithness, Sutherland, Easter Ross, Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch, Strathspey, Ross, Skye and Lochaber had 1,000 eligible individuals.

Tulloch Bridge, including Argyll, Bute, Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch, Strathspey, Paisley, Renfrewshire North, Perth, North Perthshire, Ross, Skye, Lochaber and Stirling, had 2,000 eligible individuals.

Some 10,000 households in areas around Leek, including the Derbyshire Dales and High Peak, got the payment twice last year.

A further 78,000 households in the Rochdale area including Chorley, Stalybridge and Hyde received the payment once.

In the Carlisle region, some 10,000 households were eligible for three payments when temperatures dropped.

More than £59million was paid out in Cold Weather Payments during the first few weeks of 2021, according to data from Uswitch.

More specifically, 2,374,000 payments were made in the first six weeks of the year.

Many people across the country could soon become eligible for Cold Weather Payments as the UK recorded its lowest temperatures in two decades last week.

The Met Office even issued a yellow weather warning for some parts of the country.

DON’T MISS:

Weather charts reveal temperatures in Scotland and northern England could reach -10C this week.

A severe weather warning has thus been issued across Scotland and the north of England.

What this means is that eligible residents in the area may be due a £25 a week Cold Weather Payment from the Government.

Payments are made if the average temperature in an area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days.

Both forecast and observed temperatures from weather stations are used to determine which postcodes are eligible for payment.

Households may get Cold Weather Payments amid the freezing weather and be reassured that they have the additional money to afford extra heating.

This is especially crucial considering that Ofgem has announced a 54 percent increase on energy bills from April 2022.

Those eligible get £25 for each seven day period of very cold weather that is triggered.

After each period of very cold weather in an area, they will get the payment within 14 working days.

People do not need to apply. If they are eligible, they’ll be paid automatically.

The Cold Weather Payment scheme runs from November 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

The social protection scheme was set up in 1988 in order to support vulnerable individuals in the UK (excluding Northern Island) with financial support.
