Warriors Nathan Brown speaks, blasts players after defeat to Gold Coast Titans

Warriors coach Nathan Brown put his playing group on notice after going down 20-18 to the Gold Coast Titans.

Life for the Warriors today was made extra tough after they conceded within the first 45 seconds of the game when AJ Brimson made a stunning break to set Beau Fermor up.

Not long after, the Warriors then trailed 12-0 after winger Greg Marzhew scored his first of two tries for the game.

While the Warriors responded spectacularly with three of the next four tries to lead by two points at the main break, the Titans had the answer in the second half.

A try to Phillip Sami at the midway point of the second half proved the difference.

“Our start to the game, both of our edges – the first two tries they got off slow play the balls, it was just really poor. Not good enough if you want to win games,” Brown said after the match.

“We’re past trying to develop players, we want to win bloody games of footy. It was not acceptable. Not a good enough start.”

Brown made mention of his outsides backs, putting the squad on notice by declaring that errors will cost the team and make everyone “feel down”.

“Obviously a good effort to get back in the game, and again get in front like we did last week, but then we had two young outside backs drop the ball with the line wide open just purely and simply because they didn’t get deep enough. Again not acceptable,” Brown explained.

“Not now with where we want to be as a football club. Really disappointing.

“It was a good game of footy, I’m not saying anyone was better than the other.

“I think both sides had some periods where they better. Who deserved to win? I’m not sure.

“Whether or not you deserved to win … you get the ball with no one in front of you, you catch and put it down and score. We had two glaring ones. They took everything they created, credit to them.

“We’ve got some talented young players, they need to understand the consequences of not getting it right… it costs you games and it makes us all feel down and sour.”
