My women, my world

With Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Ranveer Singh hopes to present a new brand of heroism that is a far cry from the alpha males we see on screen. Divyang Thakkar’s directorial venture sees the actor play an innocent, mild-mannered Gujarati man who stands up for his unborn girl, and takes on his family that is representative of the patriarchal society that we live in.

Singh has dedicated the movie, which makes the case for gender equality, to the strong women in his life — actor-wife Deepika Padukone, mother Anju Bhavnani and sister Ritika. “I have been surrounded by strong feminine forces right from my childhood. I wouldn’t call them my support system; they are the centre of my universe. They are my spirit, my source of energy and power,” says the actor. He attributes his success to the strong feminine figures who anchor him.

“My mom means everything to me, my sister is like a second mother to me, and my wife is the wind beneath my wings. Even my team constitutes mostly of women, and they are the reason I am able to do what I do. I am happy I got this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the women in my life.” The movie marks the Bollywood debut of Shalini Pandey of Arjun Reddy (2017) fame.
