343 Industries has revealed a roadmap for Halo Infinite‘s near future accompanied by a lengthy video interview with both head of creative Joseph Staten and head of live service Sean Baron. The pair provided lots of additional information regarding their vision for Halo Infinite and offered explanations why some features like couch co-op are lower priority.

Next fall, players will be able to replay any mission in the main campaign and play with others using network co-op. Forge mode is also finally returning to Halo Infinite with the ability to support more than 7000 objects on screen (Halo 5 supported 1600). New elements have also been implemented like object scaling, node graph scripting, and nav mesh with bot support. Finally, there are also two new maps coming to Halo Infinite, Argyle and Detachment. Both these maps were created entirely with the forge mode.

As for the upcoming winter period, the biggest addition to Halo Infinite is the new mode called Covert One Flag. This new mode is based on traditional one-flag CTF modes but each team will have asymmetrical loadouts. The attacking team going after the flag will have pulse carbines, sidekicks, and unlimited active camo, while the defending team’s loadout will consist of commando rifles, energy swords, and unlimited threat sensors. It’s a new twist on classic CTF.

Match XP (beta beginning on November 8) will be diversified so it rewards players for playing certain game modes and how they play in-game, rather than just rewarding wins. The story of the third season will be called Echoes Within and will continue the story of the lone wolf spartans and the banished AI, Iratus. A 30-tier battle pass and a 100-tier battle pass will also be available in free and paid forms. The team is expecting to take feedback from players and tweak the battle pass accordingly.

343 industries will be shipping two new modes in winter, VIP and Escalation. Halo Infinite will also be receiving several quality-of-life improvements in the near future. The developers’ priority right now is to give the game consistency and provide a better experience for those who are playing Halo Infinite competitively.

An important point to note is that many of these changes are being made with the expectation of player feedback in mind, 343 wants to continue to update Halo Infinite with players at the heart of the game’s updates.
