Netflix has announced that the martial arts anime, Kengan Ashura, will come back for a second season on the streaming platform in 2023. A new visual poster was also released featuring the characters Kazuo Yamashita and Ohma Tokita to commemorate the announcement.

However, there is no information on when exactly the anime will release in 2023.

The Kengan Ashura anime is based on the manga written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon. It was serialised on Shogakukuan’s Ura Sunday website from April 2012 to August 2018. It also has a sequel manga titled Kengan Omega, which began serialisation in January 2019. The 12-episode anime came out in July 2019 on Netflix.

The anime is directed by Seiji Kishi who has worked on Assassination Classroom, Tsuki ga Kirei, Asobi Asobase, Radiant and Classroom of the Elite 2nd Season. It is written by Makoto Uezu and Go Zappa, with music provided by Yasuharu Takanashi. The second season consisting of 12 episodes will serve as the second part of the anime, with the entire anime being 24 episodes in length.

MyAnimeList describes the Kengan Ashura anime as follows:

“Business deals are usually made through meetings and contracts; but in the world of Kengan Ashura, businesses resort to other means to make their decisions: by hiring gladiators. Yabako Sandrovich’s Kengan Ashura depicts a world brimming with action, violence, and martial arts—one where powerful gladiators have fought in grand arenas since the Edo Period to settle the disputes of wealthy businesses and merchants.

Ouma Tokita, who is nicknamed “The Ashura,” is a fighter trying to prove himself as the strongest. Hideki Nogi, a member of the Nogi Group, hires Ouma to fight for him and makes Kazuo Yamashita, an average middle-aged man, his manager. The duo is thrown into fights facilitated by the Kengan Association. Their journey will be full of ruthless battles with other fighters aiming for the same goal. Do they have what it takes to be the best?
