PIP claimants set to receive £150 cost of living payment – are you eligible? | Personal Finance | Finance
From September 20, six million people who are paid certain disability benefits began to receive a one-off payment of £150. Payments are part of the Government’s wider £37billion support package, including the Energy Price Guarantee and cost of living payments totalling £650.
Those who had confirmed payment of their disability benefit for May 25 will receive the £150 automatically, with the vast majority to be paid by early October.
Around three million Britons who rely on disability payments like Personal Independence Payments (PIP) can look forward to this extra cash boost.
It’s paid by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to Britons who haven’t yet reached state pension age to help them meet the cost of living.
PIP is a benefit paid to people with long-term physical or mental health conditions or disabilities.

- Have had difficulties with daily living or getting around (or both) for three months
- Expect these difficulties to continue for at least nine months
The amount someone can receive from the DWP depends on the condition they are living with and how severe it is.
PIP is paid every four weeks. This amounts to between £97.80 and £627.60 every payment period.
How much PIP someone gets depends on how difficult they find:
- Everyday activities (‘daily living’ tasks)
- Getting around (‘mobility’ tasks)

PIP claimants may also be able to receive the £650 cost of living payment.
Recipients must have been claiming between April 26 and May 25, 2022, or began a successful claim during that time.
The first instalment of £326 was paid in the second half of July. The £324 balance should now be paid in less than a week’s time and should arrive by Saturday, October 1.
The money is paid automatically and payments may show in your bank account as “DWP Cost of Living”.
