The time has arrived when the players have to bid farewell to the original Overwatch title as the highly anticipated sequel arrives. Overwatch 1 had a great run and was also one of the titles that helped put Blizzard on the map. The new playstyle along with the esports reach helped the game reach unimaginable heights in popularity. Overwatch 2 releases today, October 4, 2022 and this day also marks the end of Overwatch 1.

Players will most definitely be skeptical about getting into the sequel, especially due to the all the new requirements that have been instilled through their new security protocols. Overwatch 2 will be applying a new initiative called Defense Matrix to disincentivize disruptive behaviour and gameplay. This initiative will involve a phone number to get into the game, first time user experience measures to curb disruptive behaviours and more.

We understand that these measures are being implemented in order to stop cheaters from disrupting the game, but many players also feel that it could hamper the gameplay experience for new players. We will just have to wait and see how these measures work when the game releases to know for sure. The community is extremely sad about Overwatch 1’s days coming to an end, see how they have reacted on social media below:
