Nothing Phone (1) has received support for the Jio 5G network. The latest Nothing OS update version 1.1.5 brings support for the Reliance Jio 5G network. The update comes weeks after the Nothing OS 1.1.4, which brought major improvements and enhancements to the camera.
The changelog for Nothing OS 1.1.5 reads, “ Indian users covered by Reliance JIO can now access 5G.”In addition to Jio 5G support, the Nothing OS 1.1.5 update also fixes some network issues. The update weighs 22.20 MB and seems to be currently rolling out to users in India.
Unlike Airtel’s 5G network, which is a Non-Standalone (NSA) solution, Jio is pitching its 5G network as ‘True 5G,’ a SA based 5G solution, which means it does not relies on the previously installed 4G infrastructure, and needs software update from the manufacturer to enable the 5G connection.
However, users must reside in the areas where Jio has made the 5G network available. Also, Jio’s True 5G connectivity is not open to everyone and is only available to selected subscribers under beta testing. Jio subscribers would be prompted to join the beta programme and enjoy the 5G connectivity if their smartphone is supported. In this case, the Nothing Phone (1) is supported.
Jio is expected to make the 5G network publicly available in the regions before Diwali. So, with the Nothing OS 1.1.5 update, the Phone (1) users could use Jio’s 5G network whenever it becomes available.
