A Breaking Bad Game Was Once Pitched By Creator Vince Gilligan

During a recent episode of ‘Inside The Gilliverse‘, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan revealed that he once pitched the idea of a Grand Theft Auto-style video game set inside of the Breaking Bad universe.

Breaking Bad came to an end in 2013 after a total of five seasons, but a prequel series based on Saul Goodman titled ‘Better Call Saul’ then began airing in 2015 on Netflix. There’s currently only one episode left to go until the prequel series comes to an end, which means the universe of Breaking Bad is likely coming to a close.

Of course, one way to continue the expansion of the Breaking Bad universe would be to create a video game based on the popular series. Although Vince Gilligan once pitched the idea, he still believes it would make sense for a Grand Theft Auto-style game to be created.

DUALSHOCKERS VIDEO OF THE DAY

When asked by a fan if there would ever be a Breaking Bad video game, Vince Gilligan replied by saying that “early on, I remember saying to the guys who originally said yes to Breaking Bad, who owns Grand Theft Auto? Can’t you have like a module of Breaking Bad…still makes sense to me”. Gilligan goes on to express how the idea never came to fruition but pointed out how there have been numerous attempts to turn the series into a video game.

Although there have been mobile game releases, Gilligan revealed that a Breaking Bad VR experience was once in development for the PlayStation VR headset. It’s unclear why the game never saw the light of day, but Vince did express that a lot of hours were poured into the development. Vince and his co-hosts went on to explain how even though the Breaking Bad name would be attached to the project, it doesn’t automatically make it a top seller.

Often regarded as one of the greatest television shows of all time, Breaking Bad is currently the second highest-rated series on IMDB. However, as discussed by Gilligan, the name alone can’t be enough to sell a video game.
