Western United’s superstar import Alessandro Diamanti has scored one of the goals of the season in the A-League, his effort from halfway pinching a late win for the defending champions in Hobart.
Sydney FC were condemned to yet another defeat, but even their diehard fans had no choice but to respect the manner in which it came.
With five minutes left on the clock, the Italian spotted Andrew Redmayne off his line and went straight for goal from about 45 metres away, getting it spot on and finding the back of the net.

“That is unbelievable,” Simon Hill said on commentary.
“And who else? Alessandro Diamanti – his surname translates to diamond in Italian, and diamond he most certainly is.
“That is incredible, and it might just have won the points for Western United.”
Despite winning the grand final last season, United have struggled so far this season – but that win propelled them above the Sky Blues and into eighth spot on the ladder.
“We know he’s capable, Diamanti. Beautiful stuff,” Andy Harper added.
Diamanti was interviewed on the pitch after the game, and decided to thank himself for the goal – and why not? It was absolutely brilliant.
“I deserve it because I don’t give up,” he said.
“I have to say thank you to myself.
“I’m not scared of nothing … sometimes you have to try something different. When the game is even and tough, you have to think out of the box.”
John Aloisi’s team will try and complete the set of wins over Sydney-based teams in their next two clashes, when they travel north to play Macarthur, and then Wanderers, over the next two weekends.
