This Morning host, Alison Hammond, 47, has revealed why she decided to have her gastric band removed after three years. The presenter had the band inserted after an embarrassing interview with actor Matt Damon in 2007 when he was promoting The Bourne Ultimatum.

She sat in the chair and realised it was “a bit tight”. Then, disaster struck.

The presenter explained to MailOnline: “Me and Matt had a little sit-down interview, and as you can see, I’m quite a rotund lady.

“As I sat down, I thought, ‘This chair’s a bit tight.’

“About three minutes into the interview the arm on the right-hand side just went ‘ping!’ and flew off.

“I said to Matt, ‘Carry on, what were you saying’, He was laughing and was very kind about it, but it wasn’t the best of days. I had to style it out, otherwise I’d have cried.”

It was then that Alison decided to make a major change to her weight and have a gastric band fitted.

She said, at first, she didn’t think it was working “very well”, but then it started having adverse effects on her body.

The former Big Brother star continued: “I just wasn’t ready because I had to eat salad.

Alison has previously spoken about the negative effect lockdown had on her weight.

She was forced to make a serious change after her doctor warned that she was pre-diabetic and she feared she would not be able to look after her son, Aiden, 17.

She told Fabulous in October: “Lockdown was dire for me in terms of weight. I couldn’t control my eating or how much exercise I did.

“It got to a stage where my doctor said: ‘You’ve got to do something about this, Alison’.

“I’ve never had health issues until then. It scared me because my mum had diabetes and I want to be there for my son.

“So, I decided to do something about it. I go for walks and I cut out sugar.

“I feel a lot better. I’m not weighing myself, because you feel it in your clothes.

“I’m no longer pre-diabetic, and I’m doing really well.”
