Amazon Alexa is now available hands-free on any Windows 10 PC

Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa can now be triggered with just your voice on any Windows 10 PC. This functionality has been added to the latest version of Alexa app which can be downloaded from the Windows Store. The latest version of Alexa app has been updated to Windows Store notes that the Alexa voice assistant can now be summoned just by your voice  “when the app is running in the background or minimized.”

The previous versions of the Alexa, it was only accessible via push-to-talk only. Alexa app has been available on the Windows platform since last November; however, this voice AI was only available to a limited number of Alexa Built-in PCs allowed users to wake Alexa using just their voice. However, for every PCs, the Alexa app was triggered by pressing a button to have Alexa listen for your command.

But after this update, the Alexa voice assistant can now be triggered hands-free on any Windows 10 device. However, the push-to-talk option is still available, and you have an option to switch between the two modes in the app’s settings. Apart from the hands-free functionality, Amazon also added the support for music playback from Pandora.

Amazon and Microsoft have been working in collaboration to bring a responsive environment on Microsoft products. The Alexa app is one such output from the collaboration of these companies. Amazon is also yet to launch the Alexa app for the Xbox One along with the Microsoft owned voice AI, Cortona. This will allow you to summon Cortana from within Alexa and vice versa.
