Teams looking for pitching help need not look any further than Amy Cole.
Originally posted on Amy’s Instagram, Amy and MLB pitcher Gerrit Cole partook in a game of catch — while staying at an acceptable social-distancing range, mind you — where Amy showcased her plus arm.
There might not be a better married duo of hurlers anywhere.
Really, it’s no surprise, as Amy is no stranger to a baseball field. She was a great softball player, earning All-State honors while playing in high school in California, and was a member of the 2010 UCLA College Softball World Series-winning softball team.
Her brother, Brandon Crawford, is a long-time member of the San Francisco Giants. Crawford’s arm has been described as rocket-like and garnered three Gold Glove awards. Baseball apparently runs in the family.
Usually at this point, husband Gerrit would be gearing up for a new baseball season with his new squad. But the lull in the offseason thanks to the coronavirus pandemic is the latest in a whirlwind few months for the Cole family. First, Gerrit signed a nine-year, $324 million contract with New York in December. Then, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, due in June.
So, Amy is playing catch and lettin’ it loose while in the middle of a pandemic, while pregnant. What’s your excuse for not staying active?
In any case, it’s good to see the Cole family staying loose in prep for the season, and should the Yankees need another arm in the rotation while Luis Severino is out, maybe Gerrit can help orchestrate a deal.
