Another report points to Apple launching OLED iPads in 2024

It is hardly a secret that Apple’s iPads have dominated the tablet market for more than a decade. Hardware-wise, few devices are as advanced as the Cupertino company’s flagship iPad Pro lineup. Packing a desktop-class processor, this is the most powerful tablet money can buy in 2023.

However, there is one major flaw that the current iPad Pro 2022 failed to address, at least when it comes to the smaller 11” model – the display. While the 12.9” iPad Pro does in fact feature a very impressive Mini LED panel, the same cannot be said for its smaller brother.

Luckily, both versions of Apple’s flagship tablet will be adopting OLED technology as soon as 2024. The most recent indication that the transition is on the horizon is an article from Korea IT news, which was subsequently covered by MacRumors

According to the source, one of Apple’s Korean display suppliers (most likely Samsung) is already working on OLED panels for a number of devices, including the iPad Pro 2024. The timing aligns well with the timeframe given by most analysts for the adoption of OLED technology by Apple’s iPads.

Earlier this month, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman confirmed in his Power On newsletter that an OLED iPad Pro can be expected in the first half of 2024. Ross Young, a prominent display industry insider, has also asserted in a tweet that both versions of the iPad Pro in 2024 will be featuring an OLED panel. He has also mentioned that the displays of the new devices will be slightly larger than those of the current series (i.e. 11” and 12.9”) and could come in at 11.1” and 13” respectively.

The only remaining question is what will be the fate of Apple’s rumored gargantuan 14-inch iPad? The report makes no mention of a 14” OLED iPad panel and some leakers have even suggested that the device has been canceled altogether.
