Apple announces special-edition Black Unity Braided Solo Loop and Unity Lights watch face

Apple has launched a limited-edition Black Unity Braided Solo Loop for Apple Watch and a ‘Unity Lights’ watch face among other initiatives to celebrate Black History Month this year. Apple says that the Black Unity Braided Solo Loop and matching Unity Lights watch face honours generations of Black people across the African diaspora.
They have been designed by members and allies of the Black creative community at Apple. Design of the band, the company says, symbolizes a communal belief in the necessity for a more equitable world. Complementing the band is the Unity Lights watch face, which is designed using 2D ray tracing. Apple claims that the technology has never been implemented for a watch face before.
The 2D ray tracing technology enables pixels on the screen to simulate the light and shadow falling across it and the movement of the clock hands simultaneously reveal and hide the light, changing dynamically throughout the day. Users will be able to customize the watch face to be a full screen or circular dial. Other customization options include a black and white option, tick marks, up to four complications, and a monogram.
Apple has also released Afrofuturism-inspired wallpapers for Mac, iPad, and iPhone users which can be downloaded from the company’s website. The company has also announced a campaign around the theme Music is Healing on Apple Music. Music programming on the Apple Music Browse, Genre, and Radio pages will also highlight various interpretations around the themes of Movement, Black Love, Celebration, and Peace.
Apple Fitness+ will feature new workouts that pay tribute to Black History Month, including playlists dedicated to celebrating Black artists. Authors like Harriet A. Washington and Alex Elle will also be highlighted on the Apple Books app. Users can also learn about Black history or discover Black-owned businesses through curated Guides on the Apple Maps app.
