Apple hired Intel’s 5G Lead Developer before settling with Qualcomm

Apple and Qualcomm may have settled their issues, this doesn’t mean they have sorted out all their internal differences and have become good friends. Apple has always been in negotiations with the 5G chip manufacturers like Qualcomm and Intel, but the company has finally settled down with Qualcomm to manufacture 5G chips for the upcoming iPhones.

However, according to a new report from The Telegraph, Apple has hired the lead developer of Intel which have been working on the 5G project. This is none other than Umashankar Thyagrajan, who already helped the company to develop the 4G modem found in 2018’s iPhone lineup.

Apple is trying to integrate its own chip in the iPhone models coming in 2021 even after the 6-year licensing deal, and a supply chain agreement with Qualcomm. And so, in the vision of this, Apple has hired the lead developer of Intel to speed up this process. However, Intel has completely denied is plans to work on 5G modems after Apple abolished the 5G chipset project with the company.

But with the poaching of the Lead developer of Intel, the Cupertino giant is forcing the Intel to redesign its decision return back to build the next 5G mobile modems for the upcoming iPhones.

Intel’s executives Messay Amerga and Abhay Joshi reveal in an internal email that, “Mr Thyagarajan had “played a key role” in the Intel chip that featured in last year’s iPhones and he had been the project engineer on developing its 5G chip, known as XMM 8160.”

All of the above, it is quite interesting to see how Apple will deal with Qualcomm’s agreement as the company has recently settled its issue with the chip maker.
