Apple may launch the “largest” MacBook Air in early 2023

For a long time, Apple has been rumoured to bring a larger 15-inch MacBook Air that would co-exist with the current 13-inch model. And the launch of the alleged larger MacBook Air seems to be inching closer, as analyst Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants suggests that the 15-inch panel production for the upcoming MacBook Air would begin in the first quarter of 2023, with launch expected for sometime later in spring.
It is not the first time we have heard about the 15-inch MacBook Air. The rumours have been floating around since 2021, and Ross Young had earlier said that Apple plans to introduce a larger model of MacBook Air with a screen of about 15 inches. Now, Young suggests that the screen would measure 15.5 inches.
This would be Apple’s largest MacBook Air ever
If true, Apple will have MacBook Air available in two sizes, like in old times. Apple used to have two sizes of MacBook Air – 11 inches and 13 inches – but to simplify the lineup, it discontinued the smaller one, having just one size. So, now Apple could have two sizes – 13.6 inches and 15.5 inches.
Bloomberg had earlier reported that the 15-inch MacBook Air, explaining it as a “wider version of the 13.6-inch MacBook Air,” would launch at WWDC this year alongside the redesigned M2-powered MacBook Air. However, that did not happen, so now we can expect it to launch at WWDC 2023, considering Young is tipping a spring launch for it.
15-inch MacBook Air might not come as “MacBook Air”
Meanwhile, earlier this year, Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that the production of the said 15-inch MacBook Air would not begin until late 2023 and that the larger MacBook Air might come with a 30W power adapter same as the 13-inch model despite having a larger display. And, also that the 15-inch MacBook Air would not be called the “MacBook Air.”
