Assassin’s Creed Netflix Series Loses Jeb Stuart as Showrunner Due to ‘Differences in Vision’

Over the past few years, we have seen a change in the tide of reception towards film and TV adaptations of video games, thanks to projects like The Witcher, Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, and more.

And it seemed like these fortunes will rub off on new adaptations such as the Assassin’s Creed Netflix TV series. However, the show has found itself in hot water, with the departure of showrunner Jeb Stuart.

Stuart announced his exit from the project to Collider’s Stephen Weintraub: “I think it was a little bit of a move of executives from LA to London, and it allowed the London group who, unfortunately, had to inherit my vision of what it was instead of getting to develop their own vision,” he said.

“I know it’s going to be great whenever it comes out. I think the Ubisoft guys are fantastic. I think it’s a terrific franchise,” stated Stuart. “It was just a good, mutual time to move on for both sides.”

The Netflix live-action series involving the popular video game franchise was first announced back in 2020, with the project featuring Ubisoft’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik as executive producers.

Stuart, known for his work on The Fugitive and Die Hard, joined the project in 2021. At last year’s Ubisoft Forward, the developers confirmed that the series was in early development. During the event, Ubisoft VP and executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté had further shared that the Assassin’s Creed live-action series will be an “epic, genre-bending live-action adaptation.”
