BlackBerry Messenger’s Consumer version is shutting down officially on the coming May 31st. The announcement was made by Emtek who is the in-charge of the BBM with a short blog post saying, Time to Say Goodbye!

Regarding this, the company has also sent out the same to the users. BBM for consumers were originally launched in the year 2005. Many people were stunned by the BBM as it was the most reliable platform for messaging and managing a team at the same time.

BlackBerry Messenger was the Key-selling point of BlackBerry. However, in today’s era, there are numerous Instant Messaging apps available for Android and iOS devices. BlackBerry’s devices are dying as nobody wants to buy such an expensive devices with a lot of restrictions in it.

People love to use either an Android device where there are hundreds of options and devices available for all types of people, or an iOS device if they have some good money to purchase a smartphone.

BlackBerry has been trying very hard to update their messaging app by adding new features regularly to the app. They have added new emojis, new stickers and a whole new interface for the users over the past few months as new update of the app.

Despite making regular updates and adding new features, the developers have understood that the world has moved on to other Messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messgner, Telegram and many other more. These apps are independent apps and they can work on any Smartphones, Tablets or even on the PCs without any limitations. You can simply make things easier by installing these apps on a respective device unlike BlackBerry devices.

They have publicly admitted their defeat in the competitive world and finally announced that they are shutting down their app’s services for the consumers on May 31st. If you have purchased in-app purchases items, you will be able to get those items back via Google Play Store.

The enterprise version of the BBM will remain as it is. The company is shutting down the BBM for consumers only i.e. the Consumer version of the app.
