NRL greats Billy Slater and Paul Gallen are divided on whether or not Queensland Maroons legend Greg Inglis should return to the Origin arena.

Twelve months after calling time on his stellar NRL career, Inglis stunned rugby league fans by coming out of retirement to sign a one-year deal with English Super League side Warrington.

Inglis revealed to Nine News that he had found the motivation to play footy again and hoped that this time around he could finish his career on his own terms.

“I’ve got that drive and that mentality back in my head that I can deliver,” Inglis said.

“At the time, looking back at it, I just felt like it was the right choice to make. I get the chance to go back and finish on my terms and to retire the way I want to retire.”

Following Inglis’ announcement, Queensland coach Kevin Walters said he would leave the door open for the NRL great to return to State of Origin football.

Discussing whether or not Inglis should return, Slater backed his former Maroons teammate to make a successful comeback should he find the “enjoyment” and “hunger.”

“It would have to be next year,” Slater Nine’s Friday Night Knock Off.

“GI doesn’t go until 2021, so this year would be far too big for him to come back without playing a game for 12 months.

“But if he goes over there and finds that enjoyment, that hunger and plays his best footy, of course he should.”

However Gallen disagreed, declaring the South Sydney legend would not want the pressure back on him after he admitted in his first retirement that he quit rugby league due to falling out of love with the game.

“I don’t think he would want to,” Gallen added.

“After what he said about the reason why quit in the first place, does he want to come back with all the pressure on him? I don’t think he does.”

‘We were very lucky to have him’
