Black Panther Wakanda Forever Had Two Black Panthers Originally; Ryan Coogler Might Work on a Third Instalment

It’s fair to say that fans have been quite receptive of the recent major change in the MCU involving the mantle of the Black Panther.

Following the death of actor Chadwick Boseman, a big question lingered about the future of Black Panther. Instead of recasting the character, the MCU transferred the mantle to Shuri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The brains behind the kingdom of Wakanda had a major character arc in the film, as she handled the grief following her brother’s passing to protect her nation from new threats.

Prior to Boseman’s death, it seemed like the Black Panther mantle would remain with the actor for a long time. However, Shuri actress Letitia Wright recently claimed that she would have eventually been the next Black Panther alongside her brother.

During a recent episode of The Empire Film Podcast, the British actress was asked about taking on the role of Black Panther following Boseman’s death to which she responded by sharing how bittersweet it felt. Wright further said, “Shuri was always going to do it. But it was going to be done in a different way where her brother was going to be alongside her – Really explore that, like the comic books, the ways in which T’Challa and Shuri would be Black Panther alongside each other and try to figure out how to defend their nation.”

Shuri and T’Challa as Black Panthers would have certainly invoked a great dynamic between the two characters. However, with the death of the former in the MCU, fans will be only seeing more of Letitia Wright as Black Panther in the near future.

Director Ryan Coogler reveals whether he wants to be a part of future Black Panther stories

During a recent interview with The New York Times, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler shared his original plot idea for the sequel, prior to Chadwick Boseman’s death.

In the same interview, the director was asked whether he had any interest to tell more stories about Wakanda and its characters in the future. “I’ll do it as long as folks will have me. But I think it’s bigger than just me or Joe (Robert Cole – Black Panther writer),” Coogler said. “So I hope that it continues, man. I hope people are still making movies about Wakanda long after we’re gone.”
