Brisbane Broncos monitoring Adam Reynolds South Sydney contract fallout

The Brisbane Broncos are considering making a play for disgruntled Souths halfback Adam Reynolds following his contract spat with the Rabbitohs.

Ahead of Souths’ clash with the Broncos at ANZ Stadium tonight, Red Hill officials have openly discussed signing Reynolds, who would serve as a leader in the team, mentoring the side’s younger halves.

It’s understood South Sydney have added a year to their initial one year extension to Reynolds in their latest offer, but the premiership-winner is still resigned to leaving Souths at season’s end.

The Broncos haven’t approached Reynolds’ manager Steve Gillis about making the move north and are yet to make a formal contract offer. Reynolds’ asking price is $700,000 a season on a two to three year deal but the Broncos would have difficulty meeting his demands with their current salary cap situation.

If off-contract star Kotoni Staggs chooses to leave the club for the Titans, the Broncos could have the space to make a play.

Brisbane is due to make a decision on their halves with Anthony Milford and Tom Dearden both off-contract, while halfback Brodie Croft’s three-year deal at Brisbane expires at the end of 2022.

Brisbane coach Kevin Walters told News Corp he’s reluctant to chase Reynolds if that means losing Dearden to the Cowboys.

Can Anthony Milford salvage his Broncos career?

“We’re always in the market. Every club is on the lookout if players become available,” Walters said.

“We will be looking, but right now we’re trying to re-sign four or five of our junior players.

“There’s a big, bad world out there in the player market and my job is to coach the side.

“We’ve got other people in our organisation to look after those areas.”

Incoming Souths coach Jason Demetriou, has appealed for Reynolds to stay at the club.

“I’ve spoken to Adam, I want him to stay and hopefully finish his career at Souths,” Demetriou said.

“This (contract talk) is part of the game, so it’s a process we are all going through.

“Adam’s been great with his attitude. Our focus this year is winning a premiership and Adam is committed to that as much as anyone at the club.”
