Acting Wests Tigers head coach Brett Kimmorley has slammed a tackle performed by Broncos lock Patrick Carrigan on Jackson Hastings on Sunday, branding it “horrendous”.

Kimmorley bristled in his press conference after a serious injury suffered by Hastings marred a rare Wests Tigers win.

Hastings hobbled from the field at Suncorp Stadium after Carrigan executed a hip-drop tackle in the 73rd minute, leading to the Brisbane enforcer being reported.

“I thought the tackle was a pretty ordinary tackle,” Kimmorley said after the Tigers’ 32-18 win.

“It is something that has crept into the game a little bit and it needs to be looked after, because it’s a horrendous tackle and the outcome can be really bad.”

Broncos coach Kevin Walters defended Carrigan in his post-game press conference.

“I don’t know if he snapped his ankle,” Walters said in response to a journalist claiming exactly that.

“I guess that’s a heat-of-the-battle thing.

“We’ll let the review committee look at that.

“Knowing Patrick Carrigan, the person and his character, I wouldn’t have thought there was anything intentional there.

“It was just in the heat of the battle.”

The Tigers’ boilover win capped a tormenting week for the joint-venture club, after it was robbed of victory in shambolic scenes last Sunday.

The Tigers secured their first win since round 11 and just their fourth victory of the season.

Brisbane dropped to fifth on the ladder, losing fourth to Melbourne.

The Broncos will meet the Roosters, Knights, Storm, Eels and Dragons over the remainder of the regular season.
