Pulisic’s possible departure from Chelsea could help the Blues complete their own transfer business. Head coach Potter will hope to stamp his own mark on the squad having been appointed a week after the summer transfer window closed.

Potter initially enjoyed a positive start after replacing Thomas Tuchel in September but Chelsea’s form has since spiralled. The west Londoners failed to win any of their five Premier League matches before the World Cup break.

The Chelsea hierarchy planned to meet with Potter during the World Cup break to discuss January plans. The Boehly-Clearlake consortium could spend big in the winter window despite having accrued a near-£300m bill for their summer business.
