Chinese New Year will soon be upon us as two weeks of celebrations begin to mark the Year of the Tiger. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 will see billions of Chinese people across the world welcome the new lunar year, but what does the Tiger really symbolise? What does the year ahead have in store for you?
The Chinese lunar year will reset tomorrow as the Year of the Tiger begins.
While this isn’t the first year represented by this bold zodiac animal, it will be the first year of the Water Tiger sign since 1962 and before that, 1902.
People born in the Year of the Tiger are characterised as being brave, confident and competitive – but it’s not just people born under the Tiger that will be affected by 2022’s zodiac symbol.

What does it mean for people born in a Tiger year?
It comes as no surprise the arrival of your own Chinese zodiac year will bring good fortune in what is set to be a busy year for Tigers.
Cafe Astrology says: “The Tiger is a courageous and noble soul, but also highly sensitive and quick to take offence.
“Tigers are likely to leap in where less hot-headed animals would fear to tread, and they can be very hard to control.”
While the end of the Ox year will bring wealth to Tiger signs born in 1998, The Chinese Zodiac warns that those born in the Year of the Tiger “must be careful with their health, avoid food excesses, and get more rest”.
In addition to representing wealth, the water element associated with the 2022 Tiger also symbolises abundance and prosperity, while amplifying the vital force, health and essence of the Tiger’s spirit.
The luckiest Chinese zodiac signs of 2022
Melbourne based Feng Shui expert, Edgar Lok Tin Yung has revealed his predictions for the 12 zodiac signs this year, detailing both the positive and negative forecast for the Year of the Tiger.
Some of the luckiest signs include:
- Tigers who work in the media, education, publication and training sectors and those born in 1998
- Monkeys will experience a lot of change in 2022 with plenty of travel opportunities
- Rabbits – the biggest lucky star is on for this zodiac sign in 2022 and will be good for the singles
- Snakes born in 1965 and 1989 will experience good wealth
- Self-employed people born in the Year of the Pig, particularly those born in 1983 and 1995
- Rats born in 1948 and 2008 will experience good wealth
- Dragons born in 2000 will experience excellent wealth
- Goats and Tigers have a special bonding relationship in 2022
- Horses will benefit from the ‘General Star’ and improving wealth
- Roosters will gain recognition or fame later in the year, especially those in the culinary sectors, says Mr Yung
The unluckiest Chinese zodiac signs for the Year of the Tiger
Speaking to Femail, Edgar Yung revealed there are a few groups will experience some unfortunate changes this year, including:
Those born in the Year of the Pig
The Pig is in a “penalty relationship with the Tiger”, with those born between May 5 to June 6 experiencing a “triple penalty”.
Those born in the Year of the Rat
There is no ‘lucky star’ for those born in the Year of the Rat, says Mr Yung, adding there is “very little external help available”.
Those born in the Year of the Ox
People born in the Year of The Ox should take care of their digestive health as there is a sickness star on the cards this year.
Married people born in 1985 and 1973 should beware of a third person causing trouble for your love life.
Those born in the Year of the Dog
The Dog sign has a Hugai star in 2022, related to religion and philosophy – so Dogs may want to study these.
Mr Yung told the publication there is a ‘White Tiger’ star in 2022 for the Dogs, which means blood-related injury.
