Congress ducks Twitter reply to Rahul Gandhi, targets Centre

The AICC on Thursday avoided a point to point response to Twitter’s reply to Rahul Gandhi, rejecting his allegation in a December letter that it was working under pressure from the Centre and that here was a drop in his Twitter followers due to such manipulations.

After the Twitter responded to Gandhi on Thursday – a day after international media reported about Gandhi’s month-old letter to Twitter chief Parag Aggarwal – to refute the Congress leader’s charge and said that the company has ‘zero-tolerance to manipulation and spam’, AICC did not make a detailed response.

To media queries on Twitter’s response at the official briefing, spokesperson Supriya Shrinate avoided specific answers. Instead she claimed the letter from Twitter “only vindicated” the stand of the Congress. She said Congress has consistently maintained that the government was trying to oppress voices of criticism on social media platforms.
