Danielle Collins, 28, will be facing Ashleigh Barty in the final of the Australian Open today. The star has reached her first Grand Slam final this year, and will likely have her fitness trainer boyfriend Tom Couch cheering her on.

Tom is a former Australian Rules football player, having been on the North Launceston team.

However, he retired from the sport in 2013 and went on to become a Physical Performance Manager.

Tom first worked with Danielle back in 2019 at the Acapulco Open before he began as her personal trainer.

However, many fans first heard of them after a dramatic moment back at the 2020 French Open.

Explaining what had happened later, the tennis star told The Australian how everyone thought they’d broken up.

She explained: “I was on court and one of my team was moaning and groaning and cussing about my serve.

“It had gone on for a while so I asked Tom to move as I knew he would move to a spot where I didn’t have to listen to this other person complain.”

“Everyone thought we’d broken up after the match.

“I was like, ‘We’re all good, we’re going on vacation next week.’”

Elsewhere, Tom has previously opened up about balancing his personal and professional relationship with Danielle.

He said to The Australian: “The thing that has probably made it work so well is that Danielle is so dedicated, disciplined and motivated.

“That makes things so much easier on the relationship and has probably been the key to it all.”

Heading into the final, Ash is the favourite, as the world No 1.

However, Danielle has been creeping her way up the rankings following her surgery.

She was treated for endometriosis last spring.

Speaking to the Guardian, she said: “It finally got to the point where I couldn’t deal any longer with it physically or mentally.

“Once I was able to get the proper diagnosis and the surgery, I feel like it’s helped me so much.

“Not just from a physical standpoint but from a mental standpoint.”
