Facebook and RED Announced Manifold 360-degree 3D VR Camera

0

The medium of entertainment is constantly reshaping in our modern world, and this is the where virtual realities are shining in the entertainment industry. Facebook is one of the companies that had an eye on it, and of course, it is just exactly helpful for their mission, it is to be at the centre of modern life.

Facebook made a partnership with RED Digital Cinema, a pro camera maker, to develop the Manifold camera holding a VR feature and 360-degree content. Their plan is to make it the centre of entertainment as it can record everything in a clear and detailed way from all angles just to deliver a VR-capable headset.

This envisioned device is a ball-shaped array using a 16 Helium 8K sensors (with 180-degree Schneider lenses) of RED. It can capture a complete, detailed information, and 60FPS VR video in one scene. It produces a high-quality 360-degree video that dynamically adjusts upon the movement of your head. You would not be stuck in just one camera position as it offers the best experience for you. The Manifold camera is promised to deliver “high-quality video bursting with enhanced volumetric detail and movement.”

Ease of use is ensured because of its flexibility. The control and storage units for this device can be placed up to 328 feet away from the device itself. Third party software is not a problem, there is a third-party story option that will provide an additional time for recording. Even though you can control the array from a web browser on any device that you prefer, you can also use editor tools from Adobe, Foundry and OTOY, and there is a developer kit option to enable the support for third-party processing tools and applications.

Well, these are just the planned performance of their device, and there is still a lot more to consider to produce these outcomes. Facebook and RED are working hard on the camera and to the end-to-end solution for a 360-degree 3D video capture that must work as efficient as possible.

The two companies did not made any further announcements yet about its current development, commercial availability, and of course, its respective price. But looking at its great potential, it can be an expensive one even for the professionals.
