Last night, Facebook has held its F8 developer conference in San Jose, California. At this event, the company announced the changes that are going to be reflected to its various platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and its own Messenger app. Facebook is especially revamping its native Messenger app to make it more user-friendly and has taken the first step in the direction of becoming a privacy-focused communications platform.
At first, Facebook has announced that the new Messenger app will list the Group updates on the homepage. In addition, the complete interface of the app has been redesigned by the company to make it look more refresh and attractive. The revamped app will feature newly designed Menu bar and group updates at the center of the screen. Facebook has also announced that users will now get a personalized feed of updates from their various groups and also new group recommendations based on their interests.
Apart from this, the company has also redesigned the event tab to make it more helpful for users to find event and other stuff to do in their neighborhood. The event tab will feature a brand new map which shows a detailed description of the event you are interested in. The complete interface has been redesigned to make it easier for users to find new events, organize the calendar, and quickly sift through events. Facebook says that events are one of the most used parts of the app and thus it makes sense to give it a more interactive and meaningful design.
As you already know, Facebook has previously announced that the company will merge all of its platforms viz. Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram into one to make it more secure than ever. It will also enable end-to-end encryption in Messenger just like WhatsApp. Facebook also announced that the new Messenger app will be of smaller in size making it load faster. The updated Messenger app will be as small as the “Messenger Lite” with all the features onboard.
In addition to the Android and iOS app, Facebook has also announced to revamped the desktop version of Messenger for Windows and macOS with all of the above functionalities. The desktop version will have all features including video calls and group chats. The company announced that the desktop app will come later this year.
In addition to redesigning its existing features, Facebook also announced a new feature called Meet New Friends, which will allow users to connect with strangers who might share the same interests or have some real-world connections in your surrounding. In addition to this, Facebook also announced the Secret Crush feature, which will allow Facebook Dating users to select up to nine friends to express interest in. However, this feature is only available in countries where Facebook Dating is available.
