Kangaroos icon Glenn Archer choked back tears after being notified by his son Jackson that he’d be making his AFL debut this weekend.

In what has become a common theme among AFL clubs in recent years, the Kangaroos released footage of Jackson Archer’s phone call with his legendary father, providing one of the more heartwarming scenes of the season.

Here’s how the conversation between the two Archers went:

Jackson: “Hello, what are you doing?”

Glenn: “I’ve just got home, I’ve got to go take some under 12s for training. What are you doing?”

Jackson: “Very nice. Nothing much. I’m playing this weekend.”

It’s at this point that the realisation that his son will be running around in the blue and white hits the Kangaroos’ ‘Shinboner of the Century’.

Archer is choked up by tears and left speechless as he walks outside before responding.

“You’re kidding. Hang on, mate. Something’s stuck in my throat. Oh that’s fantastic mate, well done!” Archer told his son.

“You bloody deserve it. You’ve worked really hard. Love you.”

Jackson Archer also wipes tears away from his eyes after seeing his father choking up.

“Bloody emotional family in here,” he said.

However, the Kangaroos legend’s reaction may have been bested by that of his wife, who was left in pure disbelief after receiving a phone call from her son.

“I’ve got a question: what are you doing on Sunday? Because I’m playing in Tassie,” Jackson tells his mum.

“You’re not. Your first game? Jackson, don’t talk shit. Are you really?” she said.

“I’m so proud of you that’s so good,” she said.

“We better all book our flights.”

The Kangaroos will be hoping the presence of an Archer in their side for the first time since 2007 helps arrest the league’s worst losing streak when they face Adelaide in Tasmania this weekend.
