Google opens Android Automotive OS to third-party media apps

0

Google has announced to open its Android Automotive OS to third-party apps to bring entertainment apps like music and video apps into the vehicle infotainment systems. It is expected that this service will first arrive in Polestar  2, an all-electric vehicle developed by Volvo’s standalone electric performance brand.

The reason behind choosing Polestar 2 as the first automobile for this service is, this automobile uses the same underlying framework as of Android Auto, which ensures that the music or audiobook app will work properly across different touchscreen sizes and car customizations.

However, to get this service on the automobile, you have to wait until 2020 as the Polestar 2 will arrive with Android Automotive OS in 2020. Also, Google hasn’t publicly disclosed partners, and so, the last decision relies on the company.

Furthermore, Google is not limited to open the Android Automotive OS to only a few apps, but it aims a huge collection of apps to increase service productivity. The company has “plans” to enable apps for navigation, communication “and beyond,” so you might have alternatives if you don’t care for Google Maps or need a third-party internet calling service.
