Google Photos update brings new Memories design revamp with vertical swipe gesture

Google recently announced Memories revamp and vertical swipe gesture for the Photos app. Google Photos app has received a new update which brings both the features on Android smartphones.
The update Memories redesign is the biggest change the Photos app has seen in its Stories-like section on both the Android app and desktop since its launch. As far as the Memories design update is concerned, it now features a much cleaner design with new vertical scroll gestures similar to Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts. However, it lets users switch between the image and video flipbooks.
Apart from that, the section now has a bolder title font along with a new ‘X’ button at the top for users to quickly exit from the Memories section. Also, this new close button is due to the new implementation which jumps between different memories with the vertical swipe which was earlier used to register the back command.
The new redesigned update is now available for users to download. However, it should be noted that it’s a phased rollout and might take a while to reach all users.
Meanwhile, Google has also fixed the issue where the older photos stored in Google Photos were getting corrupted.
