Gotham Knights Trailer Pits Batgirl Against Gotham’s Underworld

Gotham Knights received a new trailer at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, this one focusing on Batgirl.

Warner Brothers Games has been gradually releasing character trailers for the main characters of Gotham Knights, first came the trailer for Nightwing, then Robin and now Batgirl. Presumably, the next trailer will be for Red Hood.

Barbara “Batgirl” Gordon will be one of the four playable characters in Gotham Knights along with the three other aforementioned vigilantes. The trailer, viewable below, showcases Gordon in action against Gotham’s underworld accompanied by a monologue where she touches on the topic of keeping the symbolism of Batman alive.

A couple of months ago Batgirl’s in-game backstory was changed as the original writing was deemed to be offensive. Originally, Gordon recovered from the debilitating injury that kept her in a wheelchair through extensive training, spurred on by the death of her father. This plot point was seen as a poor representation of those with disabilities and so has now been reworked to Gordon undergoing a combination of physical therapy and pain management that she still needs to work at.

The premise of Gotham Knights is that Gotham City has fallen to lawlessness once more following the deaths of Batman and Jim Gordon. It falls to Bruce Wayne’s pupils to take on the process of cleaning up Gotham once more. Some villains that are confirmed to appear include Penguin and Mr. Freeze.

The story of Gotham Knights is not connected to that of the previous Batman Arkham games, though developer WB Montreal did previously develop Batman: Arkham Origins.

Gotham Knights is planned to release on October 25 of this year on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
